IL Man Gouges Uncle's Eyes in Fight Over Remote Control

Illinois man Exulam Holman gouged out his uncle's eyes during a fight over a TV remote, according to authorities.

The grisly crime occurred on New Year's Eve. Police responded after they received a 911 call from the injured uncle, who managed to call authorities after the attack.

Officials found the victim in the basement area after they heard moaning. His eyeballs were pulled out of his sockets and his face was covered with blood.

The victim told police the assault was over a remote control. Holman and his uncle were apparently arguing when Holman went into a rage.

Holman broke the remote control. He then held his uncle down and used his thumbs to pry out his uncle's eyes.

Officials found Holman in a locked bedroom in the house, reports the New York Daily News.

Holman has a long criminal history. He has about two dozen arrests in his past. This ultimately might factor into his sentencing if he's convicted of the crime.

He faces two felony charges: aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery.

In Illinois, individuals may be charged with domestic battery if they inflict bodily harm to a family or household member. The victim does not necessarily need to be the spouse of the perpetrator.

Individuals who cause great bodily harm, permanent disability, or disfigurement may be charged with aggravated domestic battery.

Exulam Holman gouged out his uncle's eyes. This almost surely qualifies as inflicting great bodily harm. Holman's uncle required hospitalization and surgery. He now has limited vision in his right eye, though he will require additional procedures. Holman is being held on a $1 million bond, the New York Daily News reports.
