How to Avoid a Cinco de Mayo DUI Charge
Cinco de Mayo may be the perfect time for a fiesta, but it certainly isn't time for driving under the influence.
So if you're going out for a few margaritas or a round of beers tonight, heed the following advice, 'cause seriously, the last thing you need is a Cinco de Mayo DUI.
First, to dispel any misinformation out there:
As long as police are conducting your local Cinco de Mayo DUI checkpoints in a reasonable manner, the Supreme Court considers them to be within the confines of the law.
And don't think you'll be able to skirt a DUI by swallowing pennies or challenging a breathalyzer test--the chances of success are virtually nil.
So how exactly do you avoid a Cinco de Mayo DUI charge?
You don't drink and drive.
Do yourself, your insurance premiums, and the public a favor and find yourself a designated driver or stay close to home.
Or, if you're a real party monster, keep a cab company on speed dial and a bit of secret cash on hand.
Better yet, take advantage of programs across the country that will be providing a complimentary "tipsy tow" or free cab rides this evening. Your local auto association or police station should have information on participating organizations.
Not convinced?
Think about what a Cinco de Mayo DUI charge will mean for you: a night of jail, a trip in front of a judge, a big fine, and loss of your driver's license for a few months.
