Heidi Klum and Seal Divorce: Is There a Prenup?
The marriage is over between Heidi Klum and Seal. The divorce was announced yesterday. The question on many celebrity watchers' minds may now be: did Heidi and Seal sign a prenup?
It's unclear if they did. Prenuptial agreements are common among celebrities. Yet not all famous couples have one.
The news may come as a shock to some. Klum and Seal seemed happy and "in love" compared to some other celebrity couples.
Klum is a supermodel. Seal is a musician. The couple were married for seven years and each year they renewed their vows.
They also started throwing an annual Halloween costume bash. Last year Seal and Klum dressed up in matching gorilla costumes. They played together -- and made a family together.
Seal and Heidi's released statement indicates the split will be amicable. This may be good considering their four children are all young. Their oldest is Leni, who is 7. The youngest, Lou, is only 2.
Their finances may also complicate the divorce. Seal has won numerous Grammys and sold millions of albums worldwide. Klum's modeling career made her an estimated $20 million in 2011.
If they did sign a prenup, their assets may be divided swiftly. Child custody and child support agreements might take more time to sort out. These typically cannot be included in prenups. This means the couple will either have to work out arrangements amongst themselves -- or slug it out in court.
The laws that govern Heidi Klum and Seal's divorce will also vary depending on which state they file in. The same goes for what can and cannot be included in Heidi and Seal's prenup, if they had one. Celebrity gossip site TMZ reports Heidi will file in Los Angeles.
