Girl Scout Hurt, Cookie Cash Thieves on the Run

Don't mess with Texas Girl Scouts. Especially if you're after their Girl Scout cookie money.

Sheriff's deputies in Fort Bend County, west of Houston, are looking for two men accused of stealing a cash box from a Girl Scout cookie stand outside a Walmart, CNN reports.

One of the thieves may be a bit bruised from the incident, because one of the Girl Scouts punched the man in the face as he jumped into a getaway car.

Another angry Girl Scout grabbed a hold of the car's back bumper in an attempt to stop it from speeding away. The girl suffered some scratches when she fell down.

"I hope your face hurts and I hope it leaves a scar," the girl told Houston's KPRC-TV when asked for her message to the thieves. "Who steals money from Girl Scouts, I mean, really?"

The Girl Scout cookie cash box theft happened about 2 p.m. Saturday. A black Toyota Camry pulled up, and a passenger approached the Girl Scouts' table to ask about the cookies.

Unexpectedly, the passenger grabbed the cash box and jumped back into the car. That's when the two Girl Scouts sprang to action.

The passenger and a getaway driver sped off with the cash box, which contained about $200.

If caught, the cookie cash box thief will likely be charged with theft, a Class B misdemeanor in Texas. But he may be able to claim a defense of duress, if he can prove someone else -- perhaps the driver -- forced him to steal the cash box against his will.

The driver may be charged with aiding and abetting the theft, or even conspiracy if he and his passenger were in cahoots.

In response to the cookie cash box theft, the local Girl Scout council is reminding troops to keep cash boxes out of sight, and to have two adults on hand at all times.
