GA Woman Arrested for Having Two Husbands and Stealing a Truck

Diane Tucker had a husband. Scratch that - Diane Tucker had two husbands. At the same time. You know what that's called in her home state of Georgia? Bigamy.

Bigamy is illegal in all states. Individuals can only be legally married to one person at a time.

Tucker, 48, violated this law.

Authorities say she was married to Edwin Windelberg in 2004. In 2007, she married another man, Cesar Alexandro Saldivar. She didn't divorce her first husband until 2008.

This little "overlap" in her two marriages is illegal. It doesn't help that Tucker, pictured below, lied on her marriage application by stating that she divorced her first husband in 2001.

For those wondering why bigamy is illegal in the first place, it has a lot to do with religion. Most anti-polygamy laws originated from English common law. These laws crossed the Atlantic over to the United States.

The statutes were in place partly because it was aligned with Christian morals, which forbade marriages to multiple individuals.

So given the above set of facts, it's not surprising that Tucker is facing charges of bigamy.

But the Georgia bigamist is also facing separate charges for trying to steal a pickup truck.

Tucker is accused of "purchasing" a Chevrolet truck by writing a $49,484 check. She stopped payment on the check before it was cashed by the dealership. She then claimed she never received title, and when got it she ended up pawning it off for $5,000.

What's next for Diane Tucker? Are her husbands going to come bail her out? Maybe not. Saldivar, her latest husband, allegedly found out she was already married to another man in 2009. He may not know Georgia's bigamy laws, but there's a good chance he wasn't too happy about his wife's double-marriage.
