Fortnite Sues YouTuber Over Game Cheats

For game developers these days, suing YouTubers is becoming more and more of a thing.

The creators of Fortnite, the current game that the whole world seems to be going crazy over, don't seem to have any qualm with going after the Tubers that are helping other gamers cheat. It was recently reported that the company filed a lawsuit against a video game YouTuber that goes by the handle Golden Modz. Apparently, Mr. Modz wasn't just teaching people how to cheat, he sells his cheating services.

The legal complaint was filed by Epic Games in the North Carolina Federal Court.

Cheat for Hire

The lawsuit's allegations are rather fascinating, claiming that avowed Fortnite cheater publishes videos on YouTube showing off his hacks in order to sell them. As a result of these videos, Fortnite is suing for copyright infringement, breach of contract and tortious interference.

And if you think that's a bit harsh, consider this: Earlier this year, the company filed a lawsuit against a 14-year-old YouTuber that was handing out information about how to cheat on Fortnite as well. And though the boy's mom tried to get the case squashed, her letter to the judge didn't work.

Cleaning Up a Toxic Industry

The gaming industry has certainly suffered some setbacks in recent years as social media has highlighted many of the toxic aspects of how gaming culture has evolved into a boys-club. And while some of the damage caused by the marketing of video games has been corrected, given the unrepentant attitude of the most vocal gamers, the industry is now stuck with the monster it created.
