Former 'Teen Mom' Star Farrah Abraham Gets DUI
Former "Teen Mom" star Farrah Abraham was arrested for a DUI earlier this week in Nebraska.
The 21-year-old MTV reality star was pulled over in Omaha just after 1 a.m. Monday, reports TMZ. Apparently, Abraham made a wide turn and almost struck a police cruiser.
When Abraham was given a breath test at the scene, she initially bit down on the tube "and didn't provide a sufficient sample," sources told TMZ. But after three attempts, she successfully registered a 0.147% blood alcohol level -- just shy of the state's threshold for enhanced DUI penalties.
Had the ex-"Teen Mom" star registered a slightly higher blood alcohol level of 0.15%, she could have faced aggravated drunken driving charges. An extra sip of beer may have made the difference between a six-month license suspension and a one-year license suspension.
The one piece of good news to come from the arrest is that Abraham's 4-year-old daughter was not in the car at the time of her arrest.
Had her daughter been in the car, Abraham could have faced additional criminal penalties like endangering the welfare of a child or possibly even child neglect charges.
Finally, because Abraham is no longer a "teen mom" -- she's now 21 -- she was drinking legally. Bad she been a few months younger, she could have been charged with underage drinking as well.
While the ex-reality television star was able to narrowly avoid several enhanced penalties, she still faces significant penalties for the DUI charge itself. For a first-time DUI, Abraham could face 60 days in jail, a $500 fine, and the above-mentioned six-month license suspension.
In addition, even if Abraham is convicted and avoids jail time by getting probation, she would still be required to get an ignition interlock device installed in her car if she wants to continue driving. Ignition interlock devices are extremely expensive and are also a burden.
