For Mother's Day, FindLaw's Blog Team Salutes Our Mommas

Tupac had "Dear Momma." Kanye had "Hey Mama." Taylor Swift had "The Best Day."

What does the FindLaw blog team have? Only one of us is a musician, so we're going to rely on our words here. (Plus this Spotify playlist.)

To the mommas of FindLaw's bloggers and editors, we salute you:

Gabriella Khorasanee

I'm thankful for my mother's emphasis on education and independence. Her advice to be financially independent in many ways inspired me to get my law degree, and I will be sure to impart the same advice to my daughter (though I may talk her out of going to law school).

Daniel Taylor

I remember as a kid, my mom would lug her giant typewriter from work to let me type silly stories on it. Now I get to type silly stories for a living.

Brett Snider

My mom is from Long Island, so she has that vibrant and sometimes hilarious way of speaking that still cracks me up. Like when she says "vodker." She has been nothing but supportive in both my personal and professional life. She encouraged me to go to law school after I decided I hated working in a lab too much to be a biochemistry researcher. Whenever I'm feeling stressed, she texts me with a corny joke, like one you would find on a popsicle stick.

I'm thankful for my mom's unconditional support for every career move I've ever made. From medical school to journalism school to law school, she's always behind me 100 percent and has encouraged me to be the best at whatever I decide to pursue.

She's also one of the least-materialistic people I know, preferring a handmade card and/or a holiday Skype chat (since I live 2,400 miles away) to anything store-bought. She's taught me that it's not how much you spend on someone you love, it's what's in your heart that really counts.

My mom is a nice mid-western girl: sensible, calm and reasonable -- unlike her slightly more high-strung Cali-girl daughters. But what I learned from my mom is to stick with something. If you fail, try again. If something is tough, keep going until you come out the other side. This kind of advice is what gets you through stuff like the inevitable "what the hell am I doing here" moment everyone feels fall of their 2L year.

What more is there to say? Momma, last year I thanked you for basically everything -- the family face (strong genes!), the sarcastic sense of humor, the work ethic, the spaghetti and meatballs, and my four awesome siblings.

Last year, I was a softie. This year? I'd like to give a shout out to my momma for making me into the geek that I am today. From the Apple II that we never figured out how to use, to the 486 that ran PC Geoworks (and thankfully, Windows 3.1), to the laptop you gave me when I went to college, you always made sure the tech paraphernalia was handy.
