Ferguson Grand Jury Transcript: Darren Wilson's Testimony

Transcripts of the Ferguson grand jury hearings have been released to the public following the announcement that Darren Wilson would not be indicted on any criminal charges for the shooting death of Michael Brown.

This is somewhat unusual, as grand jury proceedings are typically held in secret, and when no indictment is reached, the public isn't privy to what testimony was heard. However, as CNN reports, St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch agreed to release thousands of pages that were the basis of the grand jury's decision not to indict Wilson for Brown's killing.

Part of that record is the grand jury testimony of Darren Wilson, contained in the document below.

Wilson Testified Before Grand Jury

Wilson's testimony begins at page 196 of Volume V of the grand jury transcript -- covering testimony and evidence presented to the 12 grand jurors on September 16. Unlike a trial jury, a grand jury has much more freedom to decide what evidence they see and how witnesses are interrogated. During Wilson's testimony before the grand jury, he did not have a defense attorney present.

In his testimony, Wilson lays out the altercation with Brown to the grand jury, with state prosecutors Sheila Whirley and Kathi Alizadeh providing direction through questioning and photo evidence. Wilson describes Brown as incredibly aggressive, "like a demon," continuing to pursue Wilson -- even after Brown had been shot.

The grand jury considered this and other testimony before determining that there was not enough evidence to support an indictment.
