Fake Cop Arrested After Demanding Dunkin' Donut Discounts

A Florida man posed as a cop to get a Dunkin' Donuts discount. It's proof that: (1) hunger does strange things to people and (2) even fake cops love donuts.

Unfortunately for 48-year-old Charles "Chuck" Barry, real cops showed up (maybe with a discounted éclair in hand?) and arrested him. Barry is now facing charges for impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Who knew that cops get donut discounts?

Police Discount Cravings With a Civilian Sweet Tooth

After Barry rolled up to a Dunkin' Donuts drive-thru, he identified himself as a U.S. Air Marshal and asked for a discount on his order of donuts, reports Tampa's WTSP-TV.

It seems the store clerk was able to call the police impersonator's bluff when Barry flashed a purported sheriff's badge...

Perhaps in a hypoglycemic "Snickers commercial" state, Barry held up a holstered gun (in a non-threatening manner) and proclaimed, "See, I'm a cop!"

Eventually, the store manager rolled his eyes got Barry's license plate tag. Soon after, Barry was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer and improper exhibition of a firearm or dangerous weapon.

Oddly enough, Barry was actually getting the discount for a good while. But management brought his Glazed Golden Era to an end when he abused the discount by using it every day (gross) and used it for family on weekends. You know law enforcement is broken when fake cops are abusing their power...

Donuts: A Gateway to a Life of Crime?

Flashing a badge and a gun to score some sugar may not be a huge safety threat, but could Barry's impersonation have escalated into something more sinister?

A number of police impersonators in Florida commit crimes, often violent in nature, under the guise of a routine traffic stop or a knock on the door, according to The New York Times.

Fortunately for Floridians, it seems Barry was less interested in highway robbery and murder than cream-filled doughy delights. After all, the clerk told investigators Barry never pointed the gun at him or took it out of its holster, reports WTSP-TV.

The things people will do for a bear claw. Here's hoping Barry never catches on to the Cronut craze.
