A man in Minnesota is accused of loading vibrators with explosives which he planned to give to ex-girlfriends as Christmas gifts.

Terry Allen Lester, 37, has been arrested and charged with creating an explosive device and making terroristic threats, both felonies, the Toronto Sun reports. Making terroristic threats can typically be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony, depending upon the facts of the case and the discretion of the prosecutor.

Lester, of Waseca, Minn., was caught thanks in part to his roommates, who found a sex toy bomb and bomb-making materials after he moved out of their apartment. The unidentified roommates became concerned and called the police after discovering the items.

The items were apparently marked as "Christmas gifts." The sex toy bombs themselves were inventive, if not illegal and dangerous. One was a black vibrator filled with gun powder and buck shot, along with cords attached to a trigger. Another was a pink vibrator with the words, "Merry X-mas B----" written on it, City Pages reports.

Generally speaking, a felony terrorist or criminal threat is a threat of serious violence with the intent of intimidating or frightening another person or causing public panic. Examples of terrorist or criminal threats include:

  • Calling in a bomb threat
  • Sending a threatening e-mail to an abortion clinic
  • Terrorizing a local church
  • Threatening to shoot your ex-husbands new wife

A bomb squad determined that only one of the sex toy bombs was an explosive device. The other two toys were not dangerous, although police found the equipment necessary to also make them into bombs.
