Ex-Cop Had Sex with FL Boy Nearly 100 Times: Cops
Law enforcement in Brevard County, Fla. have arrested a 32-year-old woman accused of having nearly 100 sexual encounters with a teen. The suspect, Alysia Flynn, is a former cop and mother, and is believed to have carried on a relationship with the 15-year-old victim for over a year.
Prosecutors have charged Flynn with 42 counts of lewd and lascivious battery; 53 counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor; contributing to the delinquency of a minor; and interfering with child custody.
She could very well spend the rest of her life in prison.
There is also some indication that the number of charges will continue to grow. Investigators believe Alysia Flynn hosted parties at her home during which she provided teens with drugs and alcohol, reports Florida Today. Agents are also investigating allegations that she had sex with a number of teens from other local high schools.
The teen's parents may also be added to the mix. Evidence suggests that they were aware of the relationship for at least a year, reports WFTV. They only turned Flynn in when she claimed to be pregnant with the boy's baby.
Failing to stop or report abuse of one's child could be considered child abuse or neglect unto itself. Florida law specifically defines child neglect as a "failure to make a reasonable effort to protect a child from abuse, neglect or exploitation by another person." A sexual relationship between a 15-year-old and a 30-year-old can't be anything but exploitative.
Prosecutors probably won't charge the parents, as Alysia Flynn is their first priority. But let this be a lesson to parents out there -- if you suspect someone is illegally taking advantage of your child, talk to the police.
