Drunk Woman Drives Car Into Golf Course Sand Trap

Patricia Maione drove her car into a sand trap on Monday evening and then tried to convince officers that her GPS told her to do it.

Maione told police that the GPS told her to turn left which she did. That left turn took her through a cornfield in Northbridge Massachusetts and then onto the golf course. She drove through Whitinsville Golf Club until her car got stuck in the sand trap.

Police weren't buying her story of the faulty GPS.

They claim that Maione was driving drunk and that her speech was slurred, eyes were bloodshot, and that she smelled of alcohol. Police also found a plastic cup containing an alcoholic beverage in the car.

Maione admitted to drinking a half liter of vodka Monday morning as reported by The Worcester Telegram & Gazette which broke the news.

Police started following the 46-year-old woman when her ex-boyfriend called to report that she had allegedly broken into his house. Her car was found on the golf course after falling several feet from the bunker into the sand trap.

Maione was charged with driving with a suspended license, drunken driving, negligent driving, and driving with an open container of alcohol in the car. This isn't her first offense either.

Monday's charge is Maione's fourth drunk driving charge. The judge set $10,000 bail after discovering that she had two pending charges - one for resisting arrest and another for drugs.

Things don't look good given the evidence stacked against Maione. The police officer's observations of her demeanor at the scene and the cup allegedly found in the car could all be used as evidence against her at a hearing.

A third drunk driving offense in Massachusetts, which Maione has on her record, would mean an 8 year license suspension. Authorities could also confiscate her vehicle.

No one was hurt during Maione's sand trap expedition but her car and the golf course were damaged according to ABC. All three of cases are set to be heard in late July.
