DropBox GC Ramsey Homsany Is Leaving

The latest in news on the in-house counsel front is that Ramsey Homsany will be leaving the GC seat of file-sharing company DropBox. He will be replaced by the company's head of regulatory and litigation affairs, Bart Volkmer.

Homsany apparently leaves DropBox behind without having another job immediately in the pipeline. But seeing as he is one of the most recognizable names in Silicon Valley, we're sure he'll land on his feet wherever he ends up.

Leaving the Law Behind

According to DropBox, Homsany will still act in a consulting capacity to the company, though the exact details were not disclosed to the public. He first joined the company in 2011 after he left Google where he was hired as associate general counsel for commercial transactions. He quickly moved up the ranks and was sitting in the seat of the company's deputy general counsel. 

More Alike Than Not

Before joining Google and eventually Dropbox, Homsany worked at the firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati where he handled a variety of intellectual property matters. In an interesting coincidence, his replacement and once-coworker Volkmer also worked at the same firm. Volkmer was a Wilson regular for eight years and helped early companies navigate the nasty waters of regulation and compliance

Changes in the Air

The legal counsel move comes amidst large changes in the ranks for DropBox. Additionally, the company announced recently that it hit a record 500 million users with hopes to expand outside of the file-sharing business model to compete with Amazon, Google, and other Silicon Valley fixtures.
