Discovery Communications Names New General Counsel
Savalle Sims has been named the new general counsel for Discovery Communications.
Sims, formerly deputy general counsel, will lead the company's global legal teams and manage legal issues worldwide. In the new position, she reports to Bruce Campbell, chief development and legal officer.
"Savalle is a strong leader, with an incredible legal mind and strategic approach that has served Discovery exceptionally well," Campbell said in announcing her promotion.
Wonder Woman Class
Sims was promoted after managing the company's litigation, compliance and securities matters. Prior to serving as deputy general counsel, she was senior vice president of litigation and intellectual property since joining the company in 2011.
Recognized for her contributions, Sims was lauded as the "Ace of Legal Discovery" by Multichannel News. She was also named by MCN as a member of the Wonder Women Class of 2016.
After graduating from Notre Dame University School of Law, she worked at different law firms and became a partner at Arent Fox in its commercial litigation group. She handled a variety of employment and contract disputes, including some cases for Discovery.
Top-Notch Litigator
Washingtonian magazine called Sims one of the "40 Top Lawyers Under 40." Campbell, Discovery's chief legal officer and adviser to the board, took note.
"The feedback across the board was that she was a top-notch litigator," he said. "It was immediately apparent to me that she was an absolute professional."
Campbell oversees corporate development, business and legal affairs, is responsible for oversight of the Discovery's $1.4 billion domestic distribution business and its education division.
