Did Suge Knight's Lawyers Bribe Witnesses?

There's good and bad to being a celebrity's lawyer.

On the one hand, some of that fame and celebrity status may rub off on you. On the other hand, sometimes infamy and notoriety rub off, too.

Like it did to Suge Knight's ex-lawyers, who were arrested for allegedly bribing witnesses in his murder case. Yeah, that day at the office turned into a day in custody.


Accessories to Felony

Matthew P. Fletcher and Thaddeus Culpepper were arrested on warrants as alleged accessories to a felony. They were released the next day, however, without being charged.

According to reports, they had tried to bribe witnesses in the case against Marion "Suge" Knight Jr. The media mogul is accused of running over Terry Carter in a parking lot after an argument on the set of "Straight Outta Compton."

The New York Daily News reported the lawyers were released because the "complex" case requires further review by prosecutors. The Los Angeles Times reported in August that the attorneys had tried to bribe witnesses.

"There is absolutely, 100 percent certainly not a single witness who has ever even insinuated that I spoke with them period!" Fletcher told TMZ. "And with even more certainty, there is not a single witness or person who has ever had a conversation with me in which I offered them anything to testify."

Limelight to light

For Fletcher and Culpepper, it was their most famous case. It was not the first time they have been in the public eye, however.

According to court records, Fletcher was jailed for contempt in a case for laughing at a judge and basically calling him a racist. Fletcher was also reprimanded by the State Bar and his license was temporarily suspended.

Culpepper has had his own run-ins with the State Bar with multiple suspensions from practice. For now, the erstwhile celebrity lawyers are out of custody and out of the limelight, but not out of the spotlight.
