Despite Facebook Stabbing Couple Stays Friends
Facebook is serious stuff. At least to some people.
When Maurice Davenport refused to show his girlfriend Shemicka McVey his profile on Facebook, things got ugly. By the time police arrived, they found Davenport with a knife wound on his left bicep, according to an Indianapolis Police report.
According to McVey, the Facebook stabbing came after the Indiana couple began arguing about Facebook. Davenport went downstairs and McVey followed him. They continued to argue over Facebook as their two-year-old child was left upstairs by itself.
During the argument, McVey said she accidentetly slashed Davenport with a knife that she had picked up in the kitchen, reports. McVey further claimed that Davenport had punched her in the head and that they had both pushed each other. Ultimately, police decided not to arrest either of them and they have not been charged in relation to the domestic dispute, TheSmokingGun.com reports.
There are a number of definitions of domestic abuse or violence. According to the United States Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women, domestic violence is "a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain control over another intimate partner."
So what did Facebook have to do with the "Facebook stabbing?" It's not entirely clear. Chances are that Davenport had a message from another lady friend, or something like that. Apparently the fight started when Davenport refused to let McVey see his laptop and instead quickly closed it. Davenport told police that he, "had gotten into a verbal altercation over a Facebook page ... because McVey was attempting to view his webpage and he was attempting to keep her from viewing it."
So while Facebook lets you connect with people, it can also lead to some violent connections, it seems.
