Dental Work Postpones Sentence of Rap Superstar Lil' Wayne

The time came for Rap Superstar Lil' Wayne to report to prison and serve a yearlong sentence for gun possession. But that sentence was put on temporary hold while the rapper gets some dental work done.

According to the New York Times, a Manhattan judge agreed to put off Lil' Wayne's sentencing until March 2, at the latest, so that the rapper could have dental surgery. His lawyer said that it was a "medical situation" which could not have been remedied earlier, because his dentist had been abroad performing charity work.

Lil' Wayne's final pre-incarceration performance was at the Grammy awards with rappers Drake and Eminem.

It will be quite some time before the New Orleans rapper takes the stage again.

According to Rolling Stone, he was to turn himself in of Feb. 9, for gun possession charges stemming from a 2007 arrest. Lil Wayne was preparing to serve his jail sentence just days after his the release of his new album 'Rebirth'.

Lil Wayne has talked about his forthcoming prison sentence and claimed he's looking forward to it.

"This is Lil Wayne going to jail," he says. "Nobody I can talk to can tell me what that's like. I just say I'm looking forward to it," he said in his Rolling Stone interview.

As previously discussed, the rap superstar pleaded guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon. The charge stemmed from a 2007 New York traffic stop of his tour bus where a loaded .40 semi-automatic was found in a Louis Vuitton bag.

New York's gun and weapons are among the toughest in the country. Simple possession of a concealed handgun carries jail time.

Lil Wayne plead guilty to second-degree attempted weapon possession, a felony.

Originally, the rapper pleaded not guilty but he changed his plea to guilty in exchange for a reduced 12-month sentence.

His charges could have carried a 3 1/2 year minimum sentence if he contested the charges and was convicted, as previously discussed.
