Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher Divorce Over Infidelity?
Divorce bells (or whatever the opposite of wedding bells are) are ringing for former lovebirds Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher. Moore released a statement on Thursday announcing the demise of their marriage. This comes after months of speculation that Kutcher cheated on his wife.
In a released statement, Moore says that there are “certain values and vows” that she holds dear, and that she’s chosen to “move forward” with her life. Apparently to move forward, she needs to do so without Ashton and their six-year-marriage.
Ashton also joined in with a Twitter post that read: “I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi. Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail.”
Moore and Kutcher both make no mention of Kutcher's alleged infidelity. But undoubtedly, many fans and journalists are likely wondering if the divorce was instigated by all of the allegations.
In September, 22-year-old Sara Leal came forward and said she had sex with Kutcher on the same night as his wedding anniversary to Moore. And this isn't even the first time that he's been accused of sleeping around. In 2010, People reports that another woman came forward alleging she had a tryst with the actor.
Two allegations of cheating are bound to upset most marriages - or at least provide some additional strain.
But, California is a no-fault, community property state. Even if Ashton did cheat on Demi, he will be entitled to half of all the marital property if they choose to file in the Golden State. Marital property includes wages and other income earned during marriage.
That is, unless they had a prenuptial agreement. In that case, marital property will be divided according to the contract. And who knows - maybe if they did have a prenup, one of the clauses will spell out what will happen in case Ashton Kutcher cheated.
