Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman Split Over Womanizing?
After a 30-year marriage and 42-year relationship, Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman have announced they are separating.
DeVito and Perlman formed a rare Hollywood couple, both making successful careers for themselves as entertainers while maintaining a family and raising three children. The two even co-starred on Cheers.
While their split is surprising, perhaps even more surprising are the reasons being given as to why the marriage is ending, reports The Huffington Post.
Things were apparently not so sunny in the Danny DeVito-Rita Perlman household. The couple was reportedly unhappy for more than a decade -- a big reason apparently being DeVito's alleged wandering eye and womanizing ways, reports HuffPo.
DeVito, 67, is probably the last man you'd expect to be a philanderer given his age, stature, and apparently blissful marriage to Perlman, 64. But according to HuffPo, DeVito gets a lot of female attention given his Hollywood status, and he is not ashamed to "abuse his position" to chat up young, attractive women looking to make it in the industry. If these reports are true, DeVito appears to be the source of the marital breakdown.
So far, the couple has only reported that they are separating. It is still not clear if they are divorcing. If the couple only legally separates, they will still be married in the eyes of the law, though likely living part.
A separation is similar to a divorce as a spouse may still seek spousal and child support (though, with three grown children, child support won't be an issue here). A court order will likely outline the rights and responsibilities of each party in the separation.
One benefit of a legal separation is that the couple may have the ability to work out their differences during the separation and then choose to reunite or divorce later. If the couple initially divorced, and then decided to get back together, they would have to go through the hassle of divorcing and then remarrying. So a legal separation may be beneficial for a couple that's unsure if they really want to end their marriage by pursuing divorce.
