DA Wants Adrian Peterson Rearrested After Alleged 'Weed' Comment
Prosecutors in NFL running back Adrian Peterson's Texas child abuse case have filed a motion to have his bond set aside in the case and have Peterson rearrested after Peterson allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana.
Peterson was arrested on charges of felony child abuse last month after allegedly disciplining his 4-year-old son with a wooden "switch." Following his arrest, Peterson posted $15,000 bond and was released.
But now prosecutors want a judge to set aside Peterson's bond in light of comments he allegedly made while undergoing mandatory drug testing earlier this week.
Peterson Allegedly Told Drug-Tester He'd 'Smoked a Little Weed'
During a required drug test this week, Peterson is alleged to have told an employee of the company conducting the urinalysis that he had "smoked a little weed." After learning of his comments, prosecutors filed a motion under a Texas law that allows a judge to set aside a defendant's bond and have him rearrested "for any good and sufficient cause."
In their motion, Montgomery County prosecutors write, regarding Peterson's alleged "weed" comment, "in light of this statement, and the fact that it was made during the urinalysis testing process, and the term 'weed' is a common slang term for marijuana, the state argues that the defendant has smoked marijuana while on bond for the current offense."
