DA Accused of Demanding Sexual Favors
The role of a district attorney is to prosecute criminals, not become one. However, sometimes roles reverse, and no one is above the law. Such is the case of district attorney Myrl Serra. Serra has been accused of a slew of sexual allegations as well indecent exposure, with the majority of encounters taking place in his office.
Serra is also accused of threatening employees with termination or damage to their reputation if they did not give into his sexual advances, according to The Denver Post. The 48-year-old attorney is charged with felony unlawful sexual contact, felony criminal extortion, and five misdemeanor counts relating to indecent exposure and unlawful sexual contact.
Those are the type of charges Serra is used to successfully prosecuting. Interestingly enough DA's and inappropriate sexual conduct at work has been in the news lately after Wisconsin district attorney Ken Kratz was found sending sexts (sexually-explicit text messages) to clients and co-workers. The investigation into Serra was also spurred by a sext. Investigators have swabbed Serra's office for semen and interviewed victims and witnesses to his demands of sexual favors from office staff.
And this behavior is more that just a criminal matter. His behavior is also a major violation of his professional responsibility as an attorney. The range of charges can result in more than just fines and prison time but also affect his position with the district attorney's office and could have him lose his license to practice law. Serra's preliminary hearing is scheduled for early next year.
