Courtney Love Being Evicted for Ruining Décor, Setting NYC Apt Fire

Guess which star is getting no love from her landlord? Courtney Love is being evicted out of her West Village home in New York . Owner Donna Lyon says that Love set the $27,000-a-month apartment on fire and damaged its interior.

The apartment was decorated by its previous tenant, interior designer Steven Gambrel. A condition of the lease read that the future tenant would not do anything to the inside of the apartment, reports the New York Post.

Maybe Love forgot to read the contract.

She apparently altered parts of the property without Lyon's consent. Gambrel's original design featured hand-painted and glazed walls, which Love apparently covered in damask wallpaper and ice-blue paint.

Last June, Love also accidentally set bedroom curtains on fire due to a mishap with a candle.

She apparently owes $54,000 in rent. The damages will cost $100,000 to fix. All in all, Love owes Lyon a whole lot of money if what the landlord alleges is true.

It might take some time for the eviction to work itself through the system. And Love may still have time to remedy the situation.

Landlords cannot evict tenants without giving them adequate notice. Landlords also need to file a suit with the court, called an unlawful detainer suit. The landlord, like Lyon, will have to prove that the tenant violated provisions of the lease.

Love can try to defend against the eviction proceeding by demonstrating that she has fixed the problem. She could pay off the balance of rent she owes, and somehow restore the apartment back to its original condition.

If Courtney Love is evicted, she will have to vacate the apartment and might have to pay damages. Love and Donna Lyon are to head to court on December 21, reports the Washington Post.
