Child Support Court Trial Date Set for Bristol and Levi

A date has been set for the child support trial of former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's first grandchild first grandchild.

A judge set a September court date but urged parents Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston to find a resolution outside of court before then, the Associated Press reports.

As previously discussed, Bristol is seeking $1,688 a month in child support to cover the 13 months since the birth of their son, Tripp. She also is asking for retroactive payments to the boy's birth, or $19,232 total.

Johnston, 19, has paid $4,400 so far.

In addition the court is trying to determine the amount of child support based on Johnston's adjusted gross income from the entertainment field.

Child support is typically based on the parents' incomes, living expenses, and the needs of the child.

As previously discussed, Bristol's attorney Thomas Van Flein has filed a motion asked a judge to issue subpoenas to obtain payments made to Johnston from his media deals with Playgirl and other companies.

A judge has not ruled on the request.

Johnston has posed nude for Playgirl for both online and print publications, also hopes to land acting jobs, the AP reports. He has said however that he has not generated a steady income from the entertainment field.

Currently, Bristol is the custodial parent of Tripp and suing for "sole custody." Levi is fighting for joint custody, as previously discussed.

Joint legal custody means that both Levi and the Bristol would share in major decisions affecting the child. Major decisions would include: schooling, healthcare, and religious instruction. Procedures are issued by the court if the parents cannot agree on these decisions.
