Child Protective Services Pay Charlie Sheen Home Visit
The home visit by child services workers to Charlie Sheen was routine, according to his publicist.
The Associated Press reports, the actor is facing criminal charges over a domestic dispute. The recent visit by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) to Charlie Sheen's home was apparently connected to the case.
Sheen's attorney Stan Rosenfield said it was a scheduled, procedural visit.
As previously discussed, Sheen was charged on felony menacing, third degree assault and criminal mischief. The star of CBS' "Two and a Half Men," was arrested on Christmas Day and released after posting $8,500 bond and advised by on the conditions of his release.
After an altercation in Colorado on Christmas that led Brooke to claim that Sheen put a knife to her throat and threaten to kill her. An order of protection was put in place, to prevent the couple from having contact.
Since then as previously discussed, Colorado 9th District Court Judge James B. Boyd allowed Sheen to return to Los Angeles with his wife, Brooke Mueller, and modified a protective order.
The judge however, left standard provisions of the of the protective order in place including prohibitions on harassing or retaliating against his wife.
Though specifics vary from state to state, in general, Child Protective Services is the government agency responsible for responding to and investigating reports of child abuse.
In addition, government social workers are required by law to make home visits, escorted sometimes by law enforcement officers. However, investigations by the child welfare agency and law enforcement are conducted separately.
Typically, law enforcement officials will focus on obtaining evidence to determine whether a crime has been committed and by whom.
In this case, Sheen is scheduled to return to court March 15.
