Chief Keef's Probation Violation: Rapper May Head Back to Jail
Prosecutors want rapper Chief Keef back in jail for allegedly violating the terms of his probation.
The Chicago-based rapper may have no one to blame but himself, after giving a video interview with music site Pitchfork at a gun range. In the interview, prosecutors say that you can see Chief Keef carrying a gun, reports Rolling Stone.
Chief Keef, whose real name is Keith Cozart, is currently serving 18 months probation for pointing a gun at a Chicago police officer. His probation reportedly prevents him from carrying guns, illegal drugs, and associating with gangs. The rapper is also required to earn a GED per the terms of his probation.
Along with carrying a gun, prosecutors say that Chief Keef has violated the terms of his probation by hanging out with gang members and not earning the GED, reports Rolling Stone. While associating with a gang member, not earning a GED, and shooting a gun at a gun range may ordinarily be considered legal activities, someone on probation can end up going to jail for performing any of these court-prohibited acts.
More disturbingly, Keef has also been linked to the shooting death of rival teen rapper Lil Jojo, who was gunned down in a Chicago street last month. It has been reported that sending the rapper to jail may be the best thing for his own safety.
Keef has a hearing scheduled for November 20th and could end up serving the sentence related to his conviction for pointing a gun at the police officer.
The rapper who is signed onto the same record label as 50 Cent is quickly gaining notoriety for his legal troubles and "street cred." He even took to Twitter to taunt the slain Lil Jojo, reports Rolling Stone.
But while Chief Keef's antics and crimes may have worked in getting himself into the spotlight, he may also find himself in jail to protect himself from those who want to harm him. Chief Keef may argue that's the price for fame.
