Cardinals' Jonathan Dwyer Head-Butted Wife: Police Report
Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer is the latest NFL player to be arrested on domestic violence charges. He was arrested by Phoenix police Wednesday on charges of aggravated assault against his wife and 17-month-old son.
Dwyer's arrest comes after Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was indicted over the weekend on child abuse charges, and less than a month since video footage of Ravens running back Ray Rice punching his wife in an elevator earlier this year made headlines.
Allegations Against Dwyer
Dwyer's wife told police that in July, Dwyer head-butted her in the face, causing her to sustain a broken nose. A neighbor overheard the fight and called police, but Dwyer's wife told officers she had been in an argument on the phone with a family member, later telling police that Dwyer had threatened to kill himself if she reported the incident.
The next day, Dwyer allegedly punched his wife in the face and threw a shoe, which struck the couple's 17-month old son. When Dwyer's wife tried to call the police, she says Dwyer threw her cellphone out of a second-floor window. Dwyer denies having struck his wife, but admits to having destroyed the phone and having hid in the bathroom when police responded to his house. Dwyer also admitted to sending his wife a picture of a knife with threats of suicide.
In addition to two counts of aggravated assault, Dwyer is charged with criminal damage, preventing the use of a phone in an emergency, and assault.
