Cancel That: Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom Call Off Divorce
There is yet another twist in the story of Khloe Kardashian's divorce from Lamar Odom. It's not happening. The reality stars reportedly withdrew their dissolution of marriage documents from California courts this morning.
Last week many of us were surprised to discover that the couple was still married, as their split had been making headlines for more than a year. But after Odom collapsed at The Love Shack in Nevada and was rushed to the hospital last week, Khloe joined him and it became apparent that the two are technically still in a legal union. Which works out well, as they intend to remain married.
Divorce, Interrupted
The Kardashian-Odom divorce papers were filed in August but not finalized by the court. While some media outlets have reported that the delay was due to a court back log, that may not be the reason.
California does have a six-month waiting period for divorces, and whether that applies here is not clear. The answer turns on details about the couple's situation and documentation that are not publicly available.
Suffice it to say that last week we all learned that Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom were still married. She was making his medical decisions, acting as next of kin. And that will continue to be their thing.
Laura Wasser, Kardashian's lawyer, reportedly asked a judge to withdraw the divorce papers this morning. The request was granted and the high drama love story continues.
Backing out of Divorce
If indeed the California six-month waiting period was at play in the delay in finalizing this divorce, it perhaps speaks to the wisdom of this provision. While people tend not to marry or divorce without serious thought, feelings do shift over time. Rage and pain subside and can sometimes be replaced with ... love recollected.
Divorce procedures can differ quite dramatically from state to state, so it is impossible to say what you would have to do if you, too, find yourself swooning for your ex again before the divorce is finalized. Speak to a divorce attorney about your options.
As for Khloe and Lamar, they are reportedly both back in California together. She has put her relationship with NBA player James Harden on hold and Odom is looking ahead at months of physical therapy.
God Is Great, Says Khloe
Although Kardashian's representative would not comment on the canceled divorce, Khloe did issue a statement about Odom's situation after he was released from the hospital yesterday. She thanked the doctors and nurses who treated her husband in Nevada and procided the perspective sha has gained in recent days since Odom's collapse.
"You can never be prepared for an experience like this, but without the outpouring of love and endless prayers that Lamar has received and the strength I was given from my loved ones, it would have been difficult to endure. Thank you for your continued support. God is great!!!"
