Camille Grammer Gets TRO After Alleged Boyfriend Assault

Camille Grammer was granted a temporary restraining order against her boyfriend Dimitri Charalambopoulos after he allegedly assaulted her in a Houston hotel room.

But what will a temporary restraining order get the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star?

Temporary Restraining Orders (TRO)

Despite the glitz and glamour -- and brutally feisty behavior -- a number of stars on the "Real Housewives" series have been silent sufferers of domestic violence.

In fact, one of Camille Grammer's fellow co-stars from the Beverly Hills cast, Taylor Armstrong, ended her marriage because of alleged domestic violence (ironically, Camille Grammer was none too sympathetic of her plight at the time).

Victims of domestic violence often request temporary restraining orders as a tool to stop the abuse.

Unlike a full restraining order, a TRO doesn't last very long -- generally only until a hearing on a permanent order.

Requesting a TRO

The process for obtaining a TRO is relatively simple. Generally, court clerks help victims fill out the necessary forms and victims gather and present evidence of abuse to the court. In many cases, TROs may be requested without the abuser present, something courts call ex parte.

The judge will grant or deny the request based on the evidence of abuse.

In this case, the "Real Housewives" star claims that Charalambopoulos, a fitness trainer, pulled out clumps of her hair, held her nose and mouth shut, and repeatedly slammed her head into furniture during an altercation over potential infidelity, reports United Press International.

Camille Grammer likely presented photographs, hospital records, police reports, witnesses, and other evidence she had available to obtain her TRO.

Terms of a TRO

Typical terms of a TRO include requirements that the abuser stay away from the victim, where the victim works or studies, the victim's children's school, or other places where the victim typically spends time (such as a church, social organization, or in Camille's case, perhaps the SLS Hotel or Rodeo Drive).

The "Real Housewives" star's TRO prohibits Charalambopoulos from going within 100 yards of Grammer or her two children, according to UPI.

Now that Camille Grammer has obtained a TRO, Charalambopoulos must be notified of the order and be informed of the hearing date set for a full restraining order.
