It's not only award season for actors, but also for attorneys.

Earlier this week we announced that InsideCounsel's Transformative Leadership Awards are accepting nominations, and now we want to let you know that the State Bar of California is now accepting nominations for outstanding lawyers.

The purpose of the awards is to "honor[] members of the legal community who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the profession." Here is a breakdown of some of the awards that are open for nominations.

President's Pro Bono Service Awards

Created in 1983, the President's Pro Bono Service Award recognized attorneys who provide free legal services to those who otherwise could not afford them. In 2009, the scope of the award was expanded to not only recognize attorneys and law firms, but also law schools and their students. Up to nine of these honors can be awarded in different categories.

Jack Berman Award of Achievement

Established in 1992 (and renamed the following year), the Jack Berman Award of Achievement honors young attorneys who are in public service, and "in the first five years of practice."

Other awards include the Diversity Awards (honoring those in the field "promoting legal diversity in the legal profession"), the Aranda Award (given to a member of the judiciary for improving access to the courts for low-income people), and the Education Pipeline Award (recognizing academic institutions that "train and support students who are interested in the judicial system and careers in the law").

Most of the award nominations are due by 11:59 p.m. PST, on Monday, March 17, 2014, but some have deadlines later in March. Be sure to review the nomination instructions carefully as there are several requirements, and different deadlines. Don't procrastinate on this one -- be sure you give yourself enough time to get all of your supporting documents in order.

We wish all the nominees the best of luck.
