A 42-year-old woman has been accused of driving teenage boys around California and having sex with them in her Hummer. Livermore, California police have now arrested the woman involved for statutory rape and sexual assualt.

Christine Shreeve Hubbs was known as the "Hummer Mom," purportedly because she gave teenagers rides in her car. She has now been charged in the sex abuse case with a total of 67 felony counts of sexual assault, oral copulation, lewd act on a child, exhibition of lewd material to a minor, and statutory rape, the Examiner reports. KGO-TV reported that the sexual encounters may have begun with a boy as young as 13 years-old who was dating her daughter. Hubbs is being held in Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, California on $4.3 million bail.

According to police, Hubbs had sex with the boys in her Hummer and at various locations in Livermore and in Alameda County, California. She frequently gave the boys gifts including video game consoles, gift cards, and video games, investigators said.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Hubbs had sex with multiple boys aged 15 or younger and that she had sex with a 14 year old boy at least 15 times in the past eight months.

Statutory rape is always a murky area of law. In the media there is a perception that when an older women seduces a young boy, it is different than if a man seduces an underage girl. Generally the law makes no such distinction.

There have been several high profile cases involving adult women having sex with teenagers. One of the most famous was middle school teacher Debra Lafave who was facing multiple 15-year sentences if convicted at trial for having sexual encounters with a 14-year-old student. Lafave was able to plead guilty and avoid prison.
