Brutal N.J. Home Invasion Caught on Nanny Cam
A brutal New Jersey home invasion has spurred police in Millburn to step up patrols and offer a reward of up to $5,000 for useful leads to the suspect.
The attacker brutally beat a woman inside her home and in front of her 3-year-old daughter on Friday.
The violent home invasion, which occurred in broad daylight, was caught on a hidden "nanny cam" inside the woman's home, reports New Jersey's News 12.
The victim said her daughter saw everything.
"I knew that if I started screaming, my daughter would too, and I was afraid she would get hurt," the young mother told News 12. "I took it. I didn't cry the entire time."
The victim released the nanny cam video in order to help police catch her attacker.
Publicly released video footage of home burglaries has helped police nab suspects in other cases. In this case, police say the video has already provided them with several leads.
With scary stories like this, you may be tempted to buy a nanny cam for your own home. But before you invest a nanny cam as a tool for personal protection, make sure it's legal where you live. (Generally, the use of hidden cameras are OK if they don't record audio.)
Courts are still split on admitting nanny cam footage as evidence.
In this case, the video could be compelling evidence. The video of the home invasion shows the woman being punched and kicked at least 16 times before she was pushed down the basement stairs.
She suffered a concussion and facial injuries, but fortunately, was only briefly hospitalized.
The attacker got away with jewelry, including the woman's wedding ring, reports News 12. Officers have checked pawn shops to see if the suspect has tried to sell those items.
Police have released a physical description of the man they are searching for in the brutal New Jersey home invasion case. If caught, the attacker could face a variety of charges, including battery, theft, and burglary.
