Broderick Parker Surrogate Case: Suspended Police Chief Resigns

Suspended Ohio police chief Chad Dojack resigned from office to begin his sentence of 50 days of home confinement, putting an end to the Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker surrogate scandal.

Dojack was found guilty on dereliction of duties charges for neglecting to investigate or question former Martins Ferry police chief Barry Carpenter after a meeting with celebrity photographers about items from the home of a local woman carrying twins for actress Sarah Jessica Parker.

Michelle Ross, a 26-year old single mother and Broderick Parker surrogate, gave birth to the twins in Martin's Ferry, Ohio last June.

According to the Ohio State Journal, the Bridgeport, Ohio village council unanimously accepted the resignation of Police Chief Chad Dojack. Dojack submitted his letter to Mayor J. John Callarick.

Mayor John J. Callarik is the grandfather of Mr. Dojack's wife.

The mayor will appoint a new police chief and it is unknown when he will make his selection.

Residents told council members they hope the mayor will consider hiring the next chief from within the department.

As previously reported, Dojack was spared jail time. Judge John M. Solovan said he believes the people of Bridgeport have lost confidence in the Bridgeport police department.

Dojack was fined more than $1,000 and will have a curfew.

In the Broderick Paker surrogate case, Dojack and Barry Carpenter, now ex-chief of nearby Martins Ferry, were accused of scheming to take things from the surrogate mother's Martins Ferry home last year to sell to celebrity photographers.

Carpenter was found guilty of receiving stolen property, theft in office and tampering with evidence.
