Guess where British firm Allen & Overy will be moving next? DC!

That's right, the British will once again be invading our nation's capitol, this time staffing their new office with some top-tier hires from O'Melveny & Myers.

Part of the "Magic Circle," Allen & Overy will be facing some other UK-style competition in DC as rival firms Clifford Chance and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer are already in DC. Allen & Overy's only office right now is in New York.

Allen & Overy opened their New York office in 1985, and now the firm is 175 lawyers strong in the US. They are also no stranger to international expansion. Last year they opened offices in Sydney, Perth and Qatar. They also have 37 other offices across the globe.

Former O'Melveny financial regulatory partners Barbara Stettner and Chris Salter will be part of the new DC office. So will former O'Melveny counsel Charles Borden. And, to head up the firm, Allen & Overy's US banking head David Slade will be the managing partner for the firm, reports Legal Week.

And, you know what it means when a new law firm office opens? They'll need associates!

Though, before you start licking that stamp to send off that resume, remember that the office will be small. There will probably be only 12 associates to start off the new office, reports Legal Week. And, some associates are expected to come from O'Melveny.

The new office is expected to concentrate on regulatory law, though Allen & Overy has said that it wants to eventually expand to securities, banking, derivatives, project finance, anti-bribery and corruption, international arbitration, antitrust and intellectual property, reports Legal Week.

Ambitious, no? Their long list of projected practice area is just a little bit daunting. But, it's certainly doable for Allen & Overy, one of the UK's more elite firms.
