Last week, Botox mom Kerry Campbell made headlines when she appeared on Good Morning America to explain an unusual grooming procedures for her 8-year-old daughter:

Botox injections and bikini waxes.

Soon after she appeared on TV, Kerry Campbell became the subject of investigation by the San Francisco Police Department and Child Protective Services. According to a source with "knowledge of the situation," Campbell's daughter was taken away from her by authorities, reports ABC News.

On TV, Campbell had claimed that her daughter was fine with the procedure, and that other pageant moms also injected the Botox into their children to remove "wrinkles," according to ABC News.

Not all of Campbell's claims on TV have turned out to be true. Campbell also appears to not be who she claimed to be - sources now say that her name is not "Kerry Campbell" and she does not actually reside in San Francisco, a claim she made on national television, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.

Some major news outlets have been reporting that Campbell lost custody of her daughter. That may not be the case just yet, as news reports state that her daughter has been removed from the home. While it is true that authorities may remove a child if they believe they may be in danger, losing custody is a whole other matter.

In most child abuse cases, an investigation will be launched after a complaint is filed. Investigators will look into the case, and determine if the child is at risk. In cases where they believe there may be further harm to the child if they stay with their legal guardian, which is likely the case in Campbell's situation, they might take the child away and put them in a foster home. This situation may be temporary, and parents may get their children back if they agree to stop the abusive behavior.

For the parent to lose custody, the authorities must file a suit with the appropriate court to terminate the parent's custodial rights.

For Kerry Campbell (aka Botox mom or whatever her name may be), even if she may have had her daughter taken away from her, she may yet have her daughter back. So far, there is no indication that the authorities have decided to take away her parental rights.
