Beverly Hills Bar Assocation Honors CA Supreme Court Justices
For legal practitioners who are in Beverly Hills next Tuesday, the Beverly Hills Bar Association is hosting its 57th Annual California Supreme Court Luncheon.
The luncheon will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. It will take place at the Beverly Hills Hotel and will honor all six justices currently sitting on the California Supreme Court.
This promises to be a great event for practitioners who want to meet the California justices, as five of the six Supreme Court judges will be in attendance, including the newly appointed Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye. Other California Supreme Court judges slated to attend include Associate Justices Marvin R. Baxter, Kathryn Mickle Werdegar, Ming W. Chin, and Carol A. Corrigan.
As there will be a special presentation for retired Justice Moreno, he will also be in attendance.
As for the new Chief Justice, Cantil-Sakauye is the first Filipina-American to serve as California’s Chief Justice. Nominated by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, she was unanimously confirmed by the Commission on Judicial Appointments on August 25, 2010.
She served as a California appellate and trial judge for over twenty years. Chief Justice Cantil-Sakauye received her J.D. from the University of California at Davis in 1984, and began her career as a deputy district attorney for the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.
In addition to honoring the judges, the Beverly Hills Bar Association will also recognize the winners of the 2nd Annual “Rule of Law Essay Writing Competition”: Kevin Meek from UCLA School of Law, Danielle Doucet from Southwestern University School of Law, and Joseph S. Park from Southwestern University School of Law.
Tickets are $160 per person and may be purchased at www.bhba.org.
