Bertagni and Meijer Butternut Squash Ravioli Recall
Sweet butternut squash ravioli sounds delicious, right? It might be but Bertagni brand is recalling some of its Bertagni and Meijer ravioli products that may contain undeclared nuts, according to a company press release posted on the Food and Drug Administration's website last week.
People who are sensitive or allergic to cashew or almonds should be particularly wary, as exposure to nuts may be life-threatening. The pasta maker -- full name Bertagni 1882 SPA of Arcugnano, Italy -- made the announcement on November 25 that it is recalling a specific lot of ravioli.
No Injuries or Illnesses
According to the company, there have been no injuries or illnesses associated with the possibly tainted products. The taint was discovered by an outside testing agency, Bertagni said. They found "the presence of almond and cashew on raw materials used in production of these products."
The recalled pastas are two types of butternut squash ravioli. One is frozen and one fresh, each is packaged differently with different names and different distributions.
Recalled Raviolis
Bertagni fresh Sweet Butternut Squash Ravioli is packaged in a paper tray inside a plastic bag and wrapped around with paper band, the company explains. It was distributed nationwide between May 11 and November 2 of this year.
The affected lot code can be found on the front of the Bertagni package. The affected lots are these: 506B, 508C, 511D, 512C, 513B, 516B, 520A, 522B, 522F, 523B, 523C, 529C, 530F, 531F, 535C, 536A
Meijer frozen Butternut Squash Ravioli had a more limited distribution and the recall impacts only Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin. The product is packaged in a paper box and the lot code can be found on a side panel. The only lot of this ravioli being recalled is 519E.
