Bank Robbers Throw Money Out of SUV During Chase
Two bank robbers were caught by police following a car chase that involved stolen money being thrown out of a car window.
Were the bank robbers real life Robin Hoods? Stealing from the rich and giving to the poor of South Los Angeles? Or were they just plain robbin'?
The safe bet would be these crooks were just trying to steal money and create a diversion for their getaway. But a Los Angeles police officer smartly pointed out that the bank robbers would have long run out of money long prior to the police giving up their chase, reports NBC.
The police car chase of the bank robbers started like almost any other police car chase that is broadcast near daily in Los Angeles. However, mid-way through the chase, someone inside the car rolls down the window and throws out handfuls of cash.
As the chase continues, more and more money is thrown out the car. When news of the car chase got out, crowds of people started coming out onto the streets and urging the bank robbers to throw money at them. The hope of the bank robbers may have been these bystanders would have flooded the streets allowing the robbers to get away.
While this may have been a stroke of genius knowing that the television stations would have broadcasted their location to nearby residents, the banker robbers failed to remember that there was a helicopter pinpointing their location.
Police believe there have been as many as five suspects involved in the robbery. Two were taken into custody at the end of the pursuit, and police are still searching for two other suspects.
For the robbery, the suspects could face many years behind bars. They may also be ordered to pay restitution for the lost money. So in the end, they will likely regret throwing the money out the car. When will suspects ever learn that you can't outrun a helicopter?
