Attorney Myron May ID'd as FSU Shooter: Here's What We Know

Boy, what a week for Lawyers (Allegedly) Behaving Badly. Today, police announced the Florida State University alum who shot three people at the FSU library early this morning was a lawyer too.

Myron May, 31, graduated from FSU and then received his J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law. According to WESH-TV in Orlando, May entered the FSU library just after midnight, opening fire with a semiautomatic handgun, wounding three students.

Police killed May after he allegedly refused to drop his gun and began firing at them.

Target of 'Electronic Harassment'?

This story is still developing, but here's what we know right now:

As other outlets have reported, May's Facebook page says he was originally from Dayton, Ohio, and graduated from high school in Wewahitchka, Florida.

May also belonged to a Facebook group called "Targeted Individuals International," which boasts over 1,800 members. The group's members appear to believe that they're being targeted for "electronic harassment" by unknown groups or unknown reasons. From a separate "TI" website:

Do you regularly suffers from headaches that you think is migraine? When you go out, do you notice an increase in pedestrian that feels like mobbing you or sorrounding [sic] you which follows a commotion? ... Do you feel pain in different parts of your body particulary [sic] when exposed to electrical appliances like TV, microwave oven, radio, computers? And do you noticed [sic] hearing voices mostly coming out from faucet while water dripping or heating vents other than your own?

So ... yeah. News outlets confirm that May's friends "knew of May's mental health struggles." The Tallahassee Democrat reports that May "had written journals and videos in which he expressed concern about 'being targeted.'"

Financial Difficulties

Apparently, May abruptly quit his job in New Mexico, where he worked for the district attorney's office, "left his girlfriend and moved to Wewahitchka just a few weeks ago." Before New Mexico, May worked for a large law firm in Houston making pretty good money -- about $160,000 a year.

At this point, no one's quite sure why May would start shooting at the FSU library. Abigail Taunton, in whose guest house May was staying in Florida, told Tampa Bay's WTVT that he was about to file for bankruptcy. Taunton also told The Associated Press that May moved back to Florida for financial reasons "after coming out of a 'bad situation' with his parents."
