Arby's Employee Fired After Fleeing Armed Robbery
An Arby's employee was fired from the fast food chain after fleeing from an armed robber.
Ironically, the employee was fired for violating a restaurant safety policy following her escape from a knife-wielding robber, reports The Consmerist.
The unidentified 56-year-old Arby's assistant manager in Dayton, Ohio was alone in the restaurant last week when she heard the doorbell. The woman thought that it was a coworker who had come back to the restaurant to retrieve something. To the manager's surprise, it was a man brandishing a knife.
The would-be robber demanded that the assistant manager give him the store's money. The manager says that she was cornered in her office, but was able to push past the robber, making it to the drive-thru window.
The manager yelled for help and then jumped out the window, making it to safety. The woman said she pushed the robber out the way and jumped out the window because there was no way that she was going to die at an Arby's, reports The Consumerist.
Someone heard the manager's screams and called the cops. The robber made off with nothing.
But less than 24 hours after the robbery attempt, the assistant manager got a message from company headquarters. Instead of thanking the assistant manager for her quick thinking or apologizing to her for the security threat, the company fired the woman.
A company spokesperson said that he was sorry for the manager's ordeal, but that she violated company safety rules prohibiting being alone in the restaurant. The policy makes sense as an employee by herself is a much greater target for robbery than a restaurant full of workers.
It was reported that it was the third robbery attempt at that particular Arby's in six months. As a result, the recently terminated manager said that she didn't want her job back anyway, reports The Consumerist.
