And In This Corner We Have Laura Brevetti, New GC at WWE

The 1980s phenomenon of wrestling with big names like Hulk Hogan, Macho Man Randy Savage and The Undertaker is still around -- and, a big business at that. Consider: World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. ("WWE") has ten offices around the world, broadcasts in 150 countries in thirty languages and has a total reach of 650 million homes, according to Business Wire.

Yet maybe WWE needed a woman's touch because today is the first day for their new general counsel -- Laura Brevetti, reports the New York Law Journal. What Brevetti lacks in a clever stage name and spandex get-up, she more than makes up for in brains, talent and experience.

Education

Laura Brevetti earned her undergraduate degree at Barnard College and her J.D. at Georgetown University. With over 30 years of experience in public and private practice, she is often called upon by the media to comment on legal event and issues, reports Business Wire.

Public Sector Experience

Though she may not have experience in the wrestling ring, she has a lifetime of experience in the legal ring, trying cases in both state and federal court and has held notable positions as "the Attorney-in-Charge and Special Attorney, U.S. Department of Justice, and the Assistant District Attorney for Kings County, New York," according to a WWE press release.

Private Practice Experience

After gaining experience in the public sector, Brevetti joined K&L Gates as a partner in 2009 as part of the regulatory/government enforcement practice, according to Securities Docket. As partner, she also worked closely with the white collar crime and criminal defense group, where her experience in the Organized Crime Strike Force (E.D.N.Y.) no doubt played a role.

In addition, Brevetti has written several legal articles and has been a trial advocacy adjunct professor at New York Law School and Fordham Law.

WWE GC

The relationship between Brevetti and WWE is not out of the blue, as K&L Gates represented the WWE for over 25 years, according to the New York Law Journal. Impressed with WWE's legal team, she stated: They have a desire to fight and vindicate their rights when necessary. They don't fold."

As GC, Brevetti will oversee all legal matters ranging from intellectual property, licensing, litigation and contractual issues. She told the NYLJ: "Boards and senior management ... are coming to appreciate the work ethic and the smarts that many ... women are bringing to bear on the job."
