Amish Man Sexting: Willard Yoder's Buggy Sex Invite

By Cynthia Hsu, Esq. on June 22, 2011 | Last updated on March 21, 2019

Willard Yoder, an Amish man, was sexting a 12-year-old girl.

Yes, Yoder is Amish. And yes, this means he has horses and his house probably has no electronics. But yes, the Amish have cell phones. It's actually a rather common occurrence now - although for the most part the Amish culture still shuns technology.

Yoder, 21, was arrested for soliciting buggy sex from a 12-year-old girl. Police caught up to him outside a restaurant in Indiana where he had arranged to meet up with the girl, reports The Smoking Gun.

And yes, Yoder arrived in a horse and buggy.

Yoder began contacting the girl through a random text message that was sent to her phone. The girl's parents found out about the text and used the phone to continue texting with Yoder. He eventually sent about 600 texts, nude photos and explicit videos, according to The Smoking Gun.

And, in one text he told the girl that he would have sex with her in his buggy, reports The Smoking Gun.

The girl's parents contacted police who tracked him down in a sting operation, reports The Smoking Gun. That's when they caught up with his horse and buggy outside the Indiana eatery.

Yoder told police that he thought the girl was 13 and that he knew it was a bad decision, but that he had never done anything like this before, reports USA Today. He was arrested and charged with soliciting a minor.

In Indiana, the crime of child solicitation involves a person who is older than 18 years old who intentionally solicits a child under 14 years of age to either engage in sex, deviate sexual conduct, or any fondling or touching. Child solicitation is a felony.

Willard Yoder will likely be spending some deep contemplation while in custody. While an Amish man sexting is likely to raise more than few eyebrows and is definitely a strange story, soliciting sex from a young girl is a serious crime.
