ACC Heads to New Orleans for Its Annual Meeting, Oct. 28-31

By William Peacock, Esq. on August 05, 2014 | Last updated on March 21, 2019

Um, Halloween in New Orleans? Do you need any other reason to attend this year's Association of Corporate Counsel Annual Meeting, October 28 to 31 in The Big Easy?

In fact, go book your flight, hotel room, and tickets to the meeting right now. We'll wait. Just leave this article open and do it in a new tab.

That's better. Now that you're all booked, what do you have to look forward to?

What's on Tap (at the Meeting)?

According to the ACC, the agenda will include a "Chair's Choice" session, where chief compliance officers, general counsel, and regulators will discuss the implications of dividing a company's compliance and legal functions -- a growing movement at some corporations.

You can also look forward to:

  • Multiple panels on ethical employment and labor law investigations, litigation and trends;
  • A discussion on crisis management and how to respond when natural or man-made disasters strike;
  • Programming on managing health care reform and related ethics, data privacy and fiduciary duties;
  • A contracts "hackathon" to collaborate and design processes for handling contracts and negotiations; and
  • Insights from government regulators, such as the SEC, on current enforcement trends, with special focus on attorney-client privilege.

Other Reasons to Go

New Orleans. Halloween. Drinking Hand Grenades in the French Quarter. Here are a few others:

  • Networking with other GCs, just in case you decide to jump ship;
  • A new perspective, gleaned from discussing your legal department operations with others;
  • CLE credits (you have to complete them some time, right?);
  • It is a vacation that you can probably use as a tax write-off; and
  • Well, do we really need to convince you to go to hang out in N'awlins?

And if you need tips on where to go while in New Orleans, feel free to tweet me for suggestions: I'll be there next week on a non-deductible trip.
