A Craze We Can Get Behind: Getting Employers' Logo Tattoos

It gives new meaning to corporate branding. (Rim shot.)

Young tech workers in Bangalore, India are so excited to work for the tech titans, that they are taking things a wee bit too far -- and tattooing the companies' logos on their bodies, reports The Telegraph.

They aren't the first to think of the idea (though voluntarily getting "Oracle" tattooed on your chest might be the weirdest example). Last month, long-time Louisville Cardinals Coach Rick Pitino fulfilled a promise to his team to get a tattoo commemorating the national championship. Other members of his staff got similar tattoos, which will only be awkward if they are later hired by, say, the Kentucky Wildcats.

We also stumbled across this odd story about Rapid Realty NYC, which gives branded employees a 15 percent bump in commission. At least they're getting paid for it.

For all three groups, the tattoos represent more than just blind corporate loyalty, they represent life achievements. Obviously, a national championship is a pretty big deal. For tech workers in Bangalore, landing their dream job is similarly significant.

And by now, you can probably see where we're going with this.

Lets all get law tattoos! Seriously, the idea of a tattoo commemorating my alma mater has been floating around in my mind for some time. After all, the Washington & Lee trident logo is pretty badass.

And considering the scarcity of BigLaw jobs (or jobs in general), landing a big time gig in the legal field is almost as impressive as a national championship (and might even pay more). What do you think? Should my boss get an old-school FindLaw logo tattoo? Can you imagine getting a Latham & Watkins or Cravath branding on your butt?

Obviously, with lateral hiring being all the rage right now, perhaps a permanent commemoration of your firms' partners' names might not be the best idea. Then again, if you work for MoFo, at least you can pretend the tattoo has nothing to do with the firm once you've moved on.

And in the spirit of this discussion, I hereby make the following pledge: should I ever be selected for a U.S. Supreme Court clerkship, I will have that justice's face tattooed above my heart. Personally, I'm hoping for Justice Ginsburg, as this portrait would make the perfect chest adornment.

Editor's Note: Willie, readers, it ain't gonna happen. But for heaven's sake, if any of you out there do get a firm tattoo, tweet us immediately.
